Larimer pet licensing depends on the city or town

Moving across Larimer County with a dog or cat comes with a small address check that is easy to overlook. The same animal can carry one licensing duty on one side of a city line and a different one a mile away.

Dogs and cats are required to be licensed in the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland and in the town of Wellington. Those three municipalities set the rule; “Larimer County” is not a single pet-license policy that covers everyone the same way. A home inside one of those three has a clear duty; an unincorporated address out toward the foothills or the eastern plains may sit under different expectations entirely.

There is also a wrinkle in where you buy the license. County Recording has stopped selling pet licenses directly and now sends residents to NOCO Humane for both the purchase and the current fee details, so the courthouse window is no longer the stop you might assume it is.

After a move, then, the question to chase is the local-government one, not only the county one. Pin down which city or town your new address actually falls in, since annexation and pockets of unincorporated land can put a house just outside a boundary you assumed it was within. From there, NOCO Humane is the place to handle the license itself and confirm what it costs.
