Routt County building permits are an online plan-submittal process

A Porch Note from Colorado Porch — plain-English local details for all 64 Colorado counties.

A Routt County building permit no longer starts with a paper form at the counter. The building department runs permit applications and plan submittals through CityView permitting software, so the first step is creating an account and applying online.

Plans live in that same digital world. Drawings must come in electronically, and paper copies of plan sheets are not accepted for the plan record. The form and the blueprints both travel by computer.

If screens are not your strength, the department will help in person with entering permit information, so no one gets stranded at the keyboard. Even then, you still review and sign the application yourself and supply plan materials the system can actually take.

That last part is the quiet trap. A permit can stall on plan format just as surely as on a missing signature, and a designer or contractor charging by the hour will feel it. Before any of that money goes out, confirm the drawings can be delivered in the form Routt County expects. The “How To Apply For A Permit” page lays out the account setup and the file requirements, and it is worth a read before the online application is even open.
