A Weld dealer purchase may wait for the title-complete notice
A Porch Note from Colorado Porch — plain-English local details for all 64 Colorado counties.
Driving off a Colorado dealer’s lot does not mean your plates are ready that same day. The dealer forwards your title paperwork to the motor vehicle office in the county where you live. Once the Weld Motor Vehicle Division has processed it, a title-complete notice arrives to tell you the car can be plated and registered. When you come in for that step, bring identification, proof of Colorado insurance, emissions proof if it is required, and any plates you mean to transfer.
The temporary tag in your window is only a bridge to that moment. If the notice has not shown up and the tag is getting close to its expiration date, a branch office can tell you where the paperwork stands, or you can confirm with the dealer that it was actually delivered.
So keep the dealer documents together in one place, watch the mail, and ask early rather than waiting for the tag to nearly run out. A missing title packet is far easier to chase down with two weeks of cushion than with two days.
