The Clear Creek Trail gives southwest Adams County a creek corridor
A Porch Note from Colorado Porch — plain-English local details for all 64 Colorado counties.
Clear Creek is the canyon up by Golden to most eyes, but down in southwest Adams County it does something quieter: it carries a paved trail. The route starts where the creek meets the South Platte and heads toward Sheridan, with places to get on at Twin Lakes Park, Little Dry Creek Open Space, Lowell Ponds Open Space, and Engineers Lake.
That ribbon of water is why this corner feels nothing like the wide prairie farther east. The path follows the creek through older neighborhoods, past lakes, and along park edges before it crosses out of the county entirely. Inside Adams County the trail covers nine miles, and from there it links to the longer route that runs west along Clear Creek into Jefferson County.
It is a tidy example of how the metro area keeps its outdoor geography half-hidden. A road map shows a busy north-Denver edge, all on-ramps and warehouses, and gives no hint of green. A trail map shows the creek underneath it, stitching the whole stretch together and turning a drive-through corner into somewhere you can actually go on foot or by bike.
Access points, printable maps, and current conditions live on the county’s Trails and Open Space page and in its trail guide, both worth a look before a first ride or long walk.
