The figure it returns is worth more than a remembered one because a property’s bill usually stacks up several authorities at once. So before a closing, a refinance, or an afternoon spent helping a relative make sense of a confusing bill, pull the property up by parcel number and check that the owner and address match what you expected. When the record lines up, you can trust the number. When it does not, stop there and call the Treasurer’s office rather than letting a listing or a closing sheet stand in for the real account.
