You still need a fishing license at Denver's city lakes
Colorado's fishing license rules apply at Denver's urban lakes and rivers just as they do in the mountains; anyone 16 or older needs a license.

A common surprise for new Denver residents: fishing in a city park lake still follows state rules.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages fishing across the whole state, including the lakes and rivers inside Denver. The basic rule is simple. Anyone 16 or older needs a valid Colorado fishing license to fish, whether they are on a high mountain creek or a pond in a city park. Youth 15 and under can fish without a license. There are also rules about how many fish you can keep and how many lines you can use.
Why this matters: it is easy to assume an in-town lake is a free-for-all, but a game warden can check for a license at City Park’s Ferril Lake or along the South Platte just as readily as in the backcountry. Buying a license is quick and the money helps stock fish and care for waters across Colorado.
Specific rules can change from year to year, so do not rely on what a neighbor remembers.
